Straight answers, no jargon

01 / The right fit

Who it’s for

01

Startups without a technical co-founder

You have a product to build and suppliers to evaluate, but nobody to make the technical decisions on your behalf.

02

Growing SMEs

The development team needs direction, process and someone to check that the infrastructure keeps up.

03

Companies with scattered data

Information in several systems, reports built by hand. Data pipelines that collect, clean and structure everything in one place.

02 / A clear scope

What’s included

The scope is agreed after the call, based on what you need. We usually cover:

  • Review of the existing product, code and infrastructure, with prioritised recommendations
  • Architecture and technical roadmap aligned with business goals
  • Technology and supplier choices: build, buy or integrate
  • Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Render) with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform and GitHub Actions where they pay off; monitoring and security
  • Data engineering: pipelines in Python or Node.js that collect, clean and structure data, in PostgreSQL or Databricks
  • Hiring and technical assessment of candidates, team process and code review
  • Technical representation in conversations with investors, partners and suppliers
  • Agreed monthly availability, with clear priorities

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what people ask before booking a call.

What does a fractional CTO do?

Makes the technical decisions an employed CTO would make, a few days a month: what we build and how, with which technologies, with whom and in what order. Works directly with the founders and with the development team, in-house or external.

How is a fractional CTO engagement paid?

As a monthly retainer with an agreed number of days, or as a one-off project such as a technical review or an architecture decision. You receive the scope and price in writing before we start; we do not bill by the hour without agreement.

Do you also work with external development teams?

Yes. Often the role is to represent the company’s interests with an agency or freelancers: clear briefs, review of deliveries and quality checks.

Does it include hands-on building?

When needed, yes. The same person can make the decisions and write code for critical components within the agreed scope, or coordinate the team that builds them.

What does data engineering mean in practice?

Automated pipelines that pull data from public or private sources, for example procurement notices or property listings, clean it and structure it in a database you can report from or build products on.
